Zalakaros

Zalakaros made a well-known spring with thermal water. Over the past 35 years, it has become a town that plays a significant role in international tourism. The history of the baths began 44 years ago, when, as a result of drilling in search of hydrocarbons, thermal water with a temperature of +96 °C made its way to the surface from a depth of 2000 m. After the determination of its medicinal properties, an open-air bath was opened here. In 1975, a year-round indoor bath appeared. It received the official status of “healing” in 1978. The composition, as well as the size of the reserves of medicinal water, made the Zalakaros bath one of the most significant in Hungary. Local water belongs to the alkali-chloride hydrocarbonate group, it also contains iodine, bromine, hydrogen sulfide and fluorine. Such a composition in combination with radioactive substances is extremely rare.

Therapeutic bath «Granite»

The Zalakaros healing bath has changed a lot in recent years. The pools of the thermal beach, the indoor bath, saunas have been updated, the pool with effects has been expanded, the treatment department has been improved. The bath area is 4000 sq. m. Outdoor and indoor pools — therapeutic (+32−36̊С) and thermal pools (+28−33̊С), a children's pool and a pool with effects, a sports pool, a wave pool, a pool with hydromassage provide wonderful relaxation and treatment.

Local attractions and excursions

Zalakaros has a unique atmosphere of a bathing city. A variety of events are organized for guests: St. Orban's Wine Festival, Karosh Wine Days, historical archery competitions, a series of events «Karosh Summer». Between Zalakaros and Galambok is the Behiak steppe, where there is a zoo and a riding school. The private collection of the zoo has local animals and exotic plants. In Galambok, you need to look into the Regional House. In the neighborhood there is a fishing lake, which is an excellent place for recreation. It is interesting to go for a walk to the steppe chapel, located in the buffalo reserve and belonging to the Balaton National Park. It is worth a trip to Nagykanizsa, a very interesting town in the Zala region, located 20 km from Zalakaros. Artistic values, cathedrals on the squares, exhibitions in the Türi György Museum, the Kanji Fortress are interesting sights. There is a recreation center five kilometers from the city center where guests can go boating, walk through the forest or visit a restaurant. Zalakaros has the unique atmosphere of a bathing city. Every year, the resort hosts a series of events, including the St. Orban Wine Festival, Karosh Wine Days, and historical archery competitions.
