Debrecen
The city of Debrecen is located at the intersection of the territories of Hajdusag, Nirszeg and Hortobágy. The first half of the 19th century is considered the beginning of the development of the bathing culture here; in 1826, the first bathhouse was built in Nadierdo. Thermal water was found here in 1929. After research carried out in 1960, this place was declared curative. Opened in 1984, the bath was reconstructed in 2002, and in 2003 a «Mediterranean» bath «with effects» was opened. Alkaline spring water has a temperature of 63 degrees and contains chlorine, hydrocarbon, iodine, bromine and salt. Local Attractions
Debrecen is called the «Calvinist Rome». There are many opportunities for interesting excursions in the city and its environs. Be sure to see the Reformed Church, the Great Library, visit the Munkacsi Hall in the Deri Museum. It is interesting to go for a walk in Nagyerdö (Great Forest). If time permits, it is worth visiting the houses with reed roofs in Nagyvár, the Fazekas House, the Hajdušág Museum in Hajdubosormen, the Greek Catholic Cathedral in Hajdudorog – these are just some of the sights that leave an unforgettable impression.
Those who are interested in nature should not miss the Hortobágy National Park, which is considered the first national park in Hungary and is included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List. The fauna and flora of these places is widely represented in it, many rare animals live here, in the local Shepherd Museum you can get acquainted with the life and culture of local shepherds, in general, there are many opportunities for a rich program. After visiting the Museum of Shepherds in the Hortobágy area, you can look into the Nagycharda restaurant, where unforgettable gastronomic impressions of the steppe cuisine are guaranteed.
