Budapest - resort city
Budapest warm waters, by their origin, are karst.
There are
130 sources on the territory of the capital. Every day they bring to the
surface about 30 million liters of warm and 40 million liters of hot water with
a temperature of 22 76 ° C.
According to their chemical characteristics, they belong to the hydrocarbon group. There are 27 baths in the city, 13 of which have the status of hydropathic baths. The healing waters are used for bathing and drinking cures. The most valuable are the waters of the Rudas and Lukacs baths, as well as the bitter mineral waters from the Budaörs pool (Apenta, Ferenc, Jozsef, Janos), bottled.
Many metropolitan baths have an interesting history and their waters reflect both the history of the country and the development of the bathing and healing traditions of Hungary.
Thanks to the results achieved in the development of therapeutic baths and on the basis of the unique data of local thermal waters, in 1937 the International Conference on Balneology and Hydrotherapy was held here. At this conference, Budapest was elected the Balneological Capital of the World.
