Bukfurdo

The resort town of Bükfürdö is located in the northeast of the Vas region, at the place where the ridge of the Alpine mountains and the Lesser Hungarian lowland meet. The city has gained worldwide fame thanks to its healing water.

About a million visitors come here every year, mostly from abroad. In the autumn of 1957, here, at a depth of more than a kilometer, a large amount of hot thermal water with valuable minerals was discovered. In 1962, a swimming pool was opened here. Three years later, Bük water received the official status of medicinal mineral water.

Healing properties of Bük water

Water is extracted from a depth of 1282 m. Its surface temperature is +55 °C. It belongs to the group of calcium-magnesium-bicarbonate waters with a significant content of fluorine, iodine, iron and a high content of carbon dioxide.

Indications:

Local waters are indicated for sclerosis, damage to the cartilaginous disc, bone fragility; lumbago, ankylosing spondylitis, gout; chronic inflammation of the joints; for rehabilitation after orthopedic and neurosurgical operations; recovery from injuries; as well as in chronic female and urological inflammations.

Contraindications:

Bük thermal waters are contraindicated in severe diseases of the heart and vascular system; thrombosis; the presence of malignant tumors; tuberculosis; pregnancy; acute inflammatory diseases.

Therapeutic bath

The bath is located in a separate medical and tourist complex, two kilometers from the village of Bük. On the territory of 13 hectares there is a Park of therapeutic baths and recreation. The bath has six thermal (32−34 °C), four therapeutic (32−39 °C), three children's, healing and deep pools, a slide, and a pool with a smooth water surface. Note!  20 km from Bükfürdö is the town of Kösög, fraught with the spirit of the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Here it is worth seeing the Church of the Heart of Jesus standing on the Main Square, Jurisic Square — perhaps the best preserved monument of the Middle Ages in Hungary, as well as the fortress, city museums. In the Kösög mountain range, you can take a walk to the Seven Springs, which acquired their present form in 1896 on the eve of the celebration of the millennium of the arrival of the Hungarians on the territory of their present state. The water here is drinkable, so you can try it from all seven sources.
